Difficulty: Difficult

Location: Grand County, Colorado

Lone Eagle Peak has been imprinted on me as one of the most awe inspiring peaks in Colorado and is still my favorite hike to date. While the peak is certainly the main attraction, this 18 mile round trip is a scenic jaunt from start to finish!

Description: Nestled deep in the Indian Peaks Wilderness, the iconic Lone Eagle Peak stands at the water’s edge of one of the most beautiful alpine lakes in Colorado. The combination makes for one of the most scenic views in Colorado!

Our excursion begins by skirting Monarch Lake, a serene oasis of its own. As we veer off at Buchanan Creek, the trail gains moderate elevation on switchbacks through a beautiful forested area until we begin to follow Cascade Creek. Here, we’ll be met with the first of many waterfalls along our journey. We’ll continue to gain elevation as the valley opens up to reveal breathtaking views of the mountain range. We’ll make our final push up steep switchbacks that place us directly in front of Lone Eagle Peak and Mirror Lake...truly a scene straight out of a storybook!! As we take in the scenery, we’ll refuel our bodies with lunch and celebrate our success before we make the long trek back down.

Included in our rates: The services of a professional guide along with personal coaching from a certified trainer and nutrition specialist. You will learn skills, exercises, stretches and best practices to achieve the most from your outdoor adventure! Snacks, lunch and education about local and natural history are also included.

Difficulty Description: Suitable for outdoor enthusiasts comfortable with vigorous activity. Participants should have previous experience with hiking and should be engaging in strenuous exercise a minimum 3-4 days a week.  This is a well maintained trail but is rated as difficult because of the long distance and the 2200 feet of elevation gain.
